Project duration June 2014 - May 2016
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The project aimed to create a network of volunteers and code labs across the country in order to increase awareness and interest in programming. As off today Kodcentrum weekly operates in eight cities from Skellefteå to Malmö. Around the country Kodcentrum also conduct kids hackathons, a day when children, together with an accompanying teacher or parent are invited to a company to discover the world of programming together with the company employees. Along with Kodboken.se Kodcentrum offers a variety of knowledge sharing and inspiration.

Expected results and effects

Four areas of activity are identified and under development. 1) Kodboken.se 2) Code labs 3) Kids hackathons 4) Coding in school. With these four areas of activity Kodcentrum is introducing children to programming and digital creation, and to raise interest and provide tools for parents and teachers to explore learning in these areas along with their children or students.

Planned approach and implementation

In order to get a sustainable national roll-out of our activities Kodcentrum has worked locally with sectoral collaboration focusing on committing companies, the municipality and schools around the common interest to start a code lab in their city. With a base of operations in five cities Kodcentrum has focused on identifying the tools and conditions that need to be in place in order to scale the business without losing the personal commitment and engagement from the volunteers.
