Funding from Vinnova SEK 325 000
Project duration June 2018 - April 2019
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

Juteborg AB is the initiator and project owner of Jute-Top2, a project aimed at showing JuteTech as reinforcement in composites instead of fiberglass in order to achieve more sustainable solutions. Together with Clean Motion, Ljungby Composite and Rise, we have developed a prototype of a Zbee, where we replaced the roof / back component with JuteTech instead of glass fiber. The prototype vehicle has been named JuteBee and is available to view / test drive in connection with Juteborg AB´s office on the rooftop of Nordstan´s parking house, Gothenburg. (Call and make an appointment first).

Expected results and effects

The prototype was tested on the basis of normal procedure after production and partly after about 4 months of use in normal traffic. Both the brake test and the escape maneuver test were carried out with high torque stresses. During the tests, no differences were experienced compared to the series-produced Zbee. After each test, cracks, deformations, etc. were carefully examined and no changes were noted. With the JuteBee-project we have received an answer that it is easier (marginally), cheaper, more environmentally friendly and more beautiful to use JuteTech in the roof section.

Planned approach and implementation

Juteborg AB was the initiator and the project owner. Clean Motion believed in Juteborg´s idea and was willing to make available their tools and expertise in the production plant at Ljungby Composite. Juteborg adapted JuteTech together with partners in Bangladesh and several material samples were produced and analyzed by Rise in Piteå, before the full-scale prototype could was produced. Ljungby Composite was very helpful in selecting the most suitable JuteTech for the purpose, i e the roof / rear part of the Zbee. The choice of a transparent gel coat made the analysis work easier.
