Purpose and goal

We needed to develop a technology platform that provided a broadcast audio conference with a confidential mobile app. We accomplished this, with iOS and Android apps that conference potentially thousands of users to a `talk´, whilst monitoring group sentiment and keeping user identities secret. This technology helps us to effectively combat loneliness and mental illness. We have had 10-20 test talks a week from May-December with 2-250 users per `talk´. We have received considerable industrial support for the service and as representatives of Swedish female entrepreneurship.

Results and expected effects

Jiddr is an social service that creates authentic human emotional connections to break the negative effects of isolation in young people. Our goal for 2013 was to create and test the technology platform that would give us the tools to reach our target audience on their medium of choice, mobile. In 2013 using our Beta apps, we have conducted many test ´talks´ and in response we have received many many grateful emails/Facebook messages and Tweets from young people that we have been able to help and support. We want to sign up more organisations in 2014 so that we may reach even more young people.

Approach and implementation

Our goal was to use the technology to successful implement a programme of daily `talks´ in the evenings. What we did not anticipate was the great need there is to talk to someone during school hours. Many young people suffer from anxiety at school and lack support during classroom breaks and we saw this again when they arrive home to an empty house. In 2014 we will be looking for the best window of opportunity to reach our target audience by extending or moving our `talks´ programme into the afternoon.
