Purpose and goal

Modelon´s main objective for the MODRIO project has been to develop our competence and tools for model based process control. Within the project, we have developed several tools for process control based on a new common platform, and have gained experience with their application in industrial processes. Another objective has been to develop standards for the interchange of model based optimization problems among others to be used in these applications. Two standards are now in place.

Expected results and effects

The most important results for Modelon are that we have been able to develop a tool chain for model based process control, and to gain experience from applying it to industrial problems. This serves as a valuable complement to our competence in mathematical process modelling, and is expected to make Modelon an attractive partner in control of complex physical processes.

Planned approach and implementation

The approach of combining tool development with applications to create demonstrators together with industrial partners has been very fruitful, and has served as a guide to show which aspects of a tool development that are important to make a tool useful. The approach of creating common standards to base tool development on turned out to be harder to follow than expected, since it took a long time to build consensus.
