Purpose and goal

The 8th International Sustainability Transitions Conference on the theme of "taking the lead in real world transitions" took place on 18-21 June 2017 in Gothenburg. The focus of the conference was the leadership and learning necessary to speed up the transition to a more sustainable society. The conference attracted close to 500 participants from universities, governmental agencies and ministries, companies and other organizations that want to develop knowledge about or take the lead in sustainability transitions.

Expected results and effects

A total of 400 presentations were held by senior researchers, doctoral students, entrepreneurs and policy actors. These presentations were organized in nine parallel sessions, according to the following formats: "full paper", "speed talk" dialog, and poster sessions. The discussion organized according to 11 themes covering everything from leadership and learning to instruments and policies as well as transitions in developing countries.

Planned approach and implementation

On the whole, it became a very successful event. According to the evaluation, over 90% were satisfied or very satisfied with the conference as a whole.
