Status Completed
Venture The strategic innovation programme for the Internet of Things

Purpose and goal

IoT ecosystem are complex, with many layers and players, from IoT product and communication suppliers, to cloud based IoT platforms, software and consultancy companies. To address the companies´ need of guidance of how to use IoT in their operations, have analysis of a number of existing IoT ecosystem been done. We´ve also supplemented with surveys to several different kinds of users. The objective was to develop a guidance tool for these companies, and the result is the IoT Navigator tool, iotnavigator.se.

Expected results and effects

The result is the IoT Navigator tool, iotnavigator.se, an online crowd sourced tool for companies to get fast guidance over available systems and suppliers, and where companies may upload information of their own systems. Success now depends on that the we reach enough attention and distribution of the tool, both concerning users and suppliers uploading information. If so we think that the tool may be of great value for guidance over and contact within the IoT domain.

Planned approach and implementation

We´ve analyzed several existing IoT ecosystems, both dedicated and generally adoptable systems. We´ve, among other things, asked us; which are the components, which are open respectively proprietary, which protocol are used, and which are the pros and cons of different technology choices. We´ve also worked with surveys to gather needs from users. In parallel have we synchronized and further processed the material in several workshops where all the project participants have joined, and our experience is that this complete approach has been beneficial.
