Important results from the project

The purpose of the Innovative Parking project is to develop, demonstrate and evaluate innovative solutions for the management of parking and mobility for urban development in Stockholm, in particular the use of Flexible Parking Requirements (FPR). One aim of the chosen approach is to contribute to solutions that can spur the construction of new housing in Stockholm. Project results claim that there are large and significant opportunities implementing FPR in Stockholm, but also some remaining challenges. Please visit www.innpark.se for more information in English.

Expected long term effects

The project confirms developers and authorities willingness to manage car parking for new developments in a new way. Rationales for this are lower construction costs, better use of space and lower greenhouse emissions. The money saved through the new approach is used to guarantee new types of mobility solutions ( e.g. the provision of pay as you go car sharing solutions) as an integrated part of developments, i.e. new apartments. A remaining challenge is legal agreements between town planning authorities and developers regarding the durability of chosen mobility services.

Approach and implementation

The Innovative Parking project is a collaboration between developers, planning authorities, technical consultants and universities. Activities have amongst other things included: - a market analysis for implementation of Flexible Parking Requirements in the Stockholm County - development of two living labs with each more than 100 apartments in Stockholm - demonstration of new technology to make goods deliveries quicker and more reliable through real-time information of parking space availability. pricing strategies for car parking spaces in residential developments.
