Purpose and goal

Global competition places high demands on companies´ products and services and also on the development process that needs to be both efficient and flexible. These requirements can be met by more efficiently leveraging the IT-based computational tools in the development process to simulate and optimize products from a holistic perspective. Within the IMPOz project, we show how Multidisciplinary Design Optimization (MDO) can streamline the development process and optimize products from a holistic perspective.

Expected results and effects

The IMPOz project has resulted in the implementation of different MDO-based frameworks at the project partners. Based on these experiences, we have also developed a generic guideline for how MDO should be implemented in industry. The project results have been published in two doctoral dissertations and 16 scientific publications. The experience from the developed MDO frameworks and the guideline will facilitate the implementation of MDO within Swedish industry and improve its development processes.

Planned approach and implementation

The project has been organized in five work packages: project management, organizational aspects of MDO, collection of customer data, technical aspects of MDO and dissemination of results. The largest work package comprises technical aspects of MDO, and within this WP different MDO frameworks have been implemented in the forms of use-cases at the project partners. Experiences from this WP has then been integrated into the WP on organizational aspects. The project has been carried out in accordance with the intentions of the project plan.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
