Important results from the project
Sweden is in the forefront of digital transformation. However, increased reports of data misuse has damaged individuals´ trust towards organisations. For organisations, the new regulations like the GDPR is hampering their digitalisation journey. With iGrant.io, organisations can manage their user’s personal data in a cost effective manner while reducing the risk of non-compliance. It also creates new business opportunities via data exchange. All transactions are fully auditable and individuals can fully control their data and exercise their data subject rights as per GDPR.
Expected long term effects
Personal data is considered hard currency in the digital economy and is a requisite for new personalised offerings. With iGrant.io, a personal data exchange and consent solution, we create a win-win between organisations and individuals. Transparency in the way an organisation is handling personal data enables digital trust. Using iGrant.io organisations can continue their digitalisation journey without violating the new regulations. They can even exchange data with other organisations and potentially create new business opportunities.
Approach and implementation
The project consisted of four sub-projects: 1) to put the consent data in a distributed ledger (a so called blockchain) to further protect the parties in a potential dispute. 2) to standardise the data models to enable data exchange between organisations. 3) IP protection. 4) to commercialise and market the project results. An international patent application is filed and is expected to be published in April, 2020. The project ideas have been presented to more than 50 customers including Helsinki city at an event hosted by MyData Global.
