Green & Sustainable Aeroengine Demonstrators

Purpose and goal

The project target was to develop and manufacture demonstrator parts within the specialization of GKN Aerospace Engine Systems, and validate these demonstrators to TRL 5-6 in full scale tests in collaboration with international aeroengine integrators. This target was fulfilled. New lightweight technologies were developed an validated in novel engine architectures. Reduced environmental impact, through reduced fuel burn was demonstrated for these new engine types. In addition the project has led to business opportunities both for GKN and the SME partners and been a guidance for research activities at lower TRL at Universities and Research Institutes. The project was carried out as a number of focused sub-projects, one per demonstrator. Each sub-project had a different group of partners, although some partners participated to several sub-projects. This organization worked well.
