Purpose and goal
The goal was to widen the scope where H&D Wireless AB´s Griffin Enterprise Positioning Service, GEPS, could be used within food industry, transport and logistics and study what the incorporation of new technologies to GEPS could bring. The introduction of additional and new radio technologies is intended to widen the scope for GEPS.
Expected results and effects
A combination of technologies to position objects and people in the same system has shown in several use cases to be not just beneficial but also necessary. For example when there are requirements for the tracked item to move booth indoor and outdoor. In other use cases where the requirements are disparate, for different objects, cost savings can be made by implementing a simpler technology for the lower end of requirements. Something that is not possible in a one-technology system.
Planned approach and implementation
Within the project new radio technologies for positioning has been evaluated and in several cases these has been or are to be incorporated in GEPS, which today can be offered with a combination of Low Energy Bluetooth (BLE), Wi-Fi, Ultra-Wide-Band and Near Field Communication (NFC).
