Important results from the project
The project had two main objectives: to develop high-quality graphene coatings and to build a pilot line for electrodeposition. Challenges with dispersion and agglomeration required deeper studies and close collaboration among partners. A flexible pilot line with 24 baths was built at Provexa, and a demonstrator showcased EMI shielding with graphene coatings. The project delivered increased knowledge, innovative processes, and new collaborations that will continue beyond its scope.
Expected long term effects
The project has laid the foundation for industrial-scale electrodeposited graphene coatings. A pilot line at Provexa enables coating of larger components and real-world testing. Commercialization could put Sweden on the map, drive graphene demand, and benefit Nordic production. Applications support electrification and sustainability, addressing EMC and corrosion challenges. The project strengthened knowledge and developed innovative processes through academia-industry collaboration.
Approach and implementation
The plan was to establish a flexible, automated pilot production line at Provexa Technology with capacity for small-scale production. The project aimed to overcome challenges related to scaling up, continuous operation, and maintenance of a chemical process. The facility is now in place, and through close and effective collaboration among all project partners, knowledge of the complex system underlying the electrodeposition of graphene-containing coatings has been significantly deepened.
