Purpose and goal

Leading researchers and policy makers in academia, industry and other policy making institutions from all over the world had the opportunity to meet and discuss science and its role in society, thereby broadening the knowledge and understanding of the great challenges of our time and their solutions.

Expected results and effects

We discussed and formulated suggestions and ideas on science and its challenges in the society and future in groups of leading international researchers and policy makers. I build new networks with potential importance for my own research and scientific career. Meeting with interesting and leading people with different experiences from various parts of society and the world gave me new points of views which I will bring to my own research. The meeting resulted in a Statement on the challenges and opportunities of science and technology in society.

Planned approach and implementation

The form of the meeting was panel discussions with invited speakers, parallel sessions with group discussions around selected topics, and time for informal meetings. The open and inviting environment promoted interesting and rewarding meetings and discussions between participants from different background, with different roles, and from different parts of the world.
