Fuel-flexible zero emission high efficiency biomass boiler

Important results from the project

The overall goal of the project is to develop a new highly efficient fuel-flexible biogas heating system in the capacity range of 300-3,000 kW with near zero emissions. All goals and milestones in the project have been achieved. The work carried out has shown that the new HiEff-CBC technology has the potential to define a new technical standard for gas and particulate emissions and achievable efficiencies. With the successful integration of a 3-way catalyst in the new combustion technology with low emissions, a relevant technical milestone has been achieved.

Expected long term effects

The particulate emissions are far below the relevant limit values for wood fuels without the need for additional flue gas purification. In addition, the NOx reduction is about 80-90%, which is significantly higher compared to conventional SNCR systems (about 60-70%). The low NOx emissions (approx. 10-20 mg / MJ) are far below the strictest relevant limit values.

Approach and implementation

Communication was based on regular internal project coordination meetings, MS teams and telephone meetings to discuss technical details and to coordinate the ongoing work. Minutes from all meetings including lists of actions for all partners have been prepared and distributed by the BIOS. BIOS and POLY have developed a patent application for the new gas burner with integrated 3-way catalyst.
