Important results from the project

ForskarFredag created meeting between researchers and the general public throughout the country on 27-28 November 2020. The target group was the general public, especially children and young people. ForskarFredag included research from all areas, the participants also gained knowledge about how research is done, about the usefulness of science in society and its significance for our everyday lives. The researchers´ everyday lives showed young people that research is a possible career path. ForskarFredag is coordinated by Public & Science and part of European Researchers´ Night

Expected long term effects

ForskarFredag created digital meetings between researchers and 22,000 participants. As many as 54% of Sweden´s municipalities participated in the program. The program offered over 120 activities. We got to follow live broadcasts in research environments, listen to and talk to researchers about everything from corona, climate change and biodiversity to the humanities´ encounter with journalism and welfare research. 58% of ForskarFredag participants considered that they came across research that concerned them or their everyday lives.

Approach and implementation

Public & Science is the national coordinator of ForskarFredag. Coordination includes marketing, planning, evaluation, networking and reconciliation meetings with local organizers and organizing joint activities. Local activities are arranged by universities, science centers, research centers, municipalities, regions, etc. Due to Covid-19, the date was moved from September to 27-28 November. An effort was made on digital activities and action plans were drawn up to adapt activities to new recommendations.
