Status Completed
Venture The strategic innovation programme for Swedish mining and metal producing industry - SIP Swedish Mining Innovation

Purpose and goal

The project intended to further the development process, to get closer to productification and commercialization of an FBG-based sensor system for measuring bedrock movements. The project has fulfilled the main objectives: 1) developed and manufacture an FBG-based sensor system, 2) field tested the sensor system in the Äspö Hard Rock Laboratory for 1 year, to verify its stability and reliability, 3) developed an initial plan for commercialization.

Expected results and effects

The sensor system has reached TRL 5-6. An FBG-based sensorsystem has been manufactured and tested for reliability and long-term stability (1 year) in a real environment at the Äspö Hard Rock Laboratory. The system and the resulting data have been evaluated by project partners and compared to user requirements. A plan has been developed to solve identified issues and optimize the system. An initial plan for commercialization has been developed. An animated demovideo that demonstrates functions, capabilities and benefits has been developed.

Planned approach and implementation

The project was managed in close collaboration with the project group and stakeholders in a reference group. The project was organized in 12 WPs. Year 1 focused on user requirements, development, design, manufacturing of the system and system integration. Year 2 focused on the field test of the system in the Äspö Hard Rock Laboratory. The field test resulted in valuable information, both in terms of data from the sensors and how the system works as a whole with sensors, data management and the visualization program.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
