Purpose and goal

The goal is to develop bio-based, biodegradable, and recyclable fiber-based foam materials that can form the basis for a premium packaging prototype. The project aims to support the commercialization of the packaging material and ensure that the development efforts needed to achieve the goal are appropriately directed.

Expected effects and result

At the project´s end, the foam material´s potential as premium packaging is expected to be verified, and a prototype will be developed. In addition, a deeper understanding of the market potential for bio-based packaging materials should have been achieved. Furthermore, knowledge of the dominant players and today´s plastic-based alternatives should have been obtained. This includes understanding the rules and requirements for a new product to be introduced to the market.

Planned approach and implementation

The project will be divided into two work packages. In the first work package, the market potential for the material will be thoroughly investigated and relevant data will be collected. This will be done in close dialogue with various partners along the value chain. In work package 2, the material´s formulation will be optimized and adapted to achieve the desired properties for premium packaging. Prototypes will be developed and later evaluated together with relevant partners.
