Project duration April 2026 - March 2029
Status Ongoing

Purpose and goal

ENCCS (EuroCC National Competence Centre Sweden) is Sweden´s national competence centre for high-performance computing (HPC), run by RISE and Linköping University within EuroCC 3. It aims to help SMEs, industry, academia and the public sector use HPC, high-performance data analytics (HPDA) and emerging technologies such as quantum computing. ENCCS brokers access to EuroHPC resources, offers consultancy and proof-of-concept support, and builds skills through training.

Expected effects and result

More Swedish companies, especially SMEs, use HPC and EuroHPC resources efficiently. This contributes to faster and more efficient R&D, new products and stronger competitiveness. Training and consultancy broaden the pool of HPC-skilled professionals in Sweden. Simulation-based optimisation can cut energy use and emissions, and shared resources reduce the need for on-premises computing. In the long term, RISE can establish itself as an industrial HPC partner that complements NAISS.

Planned approach and implementation

ENCCS is Work Package 35 of EuroCC 3 (April 2026 to March 2029) with five tasks: 1) management and follow-up, 2) outreach and networking, 3) user needs analysis and service brokering, 4) HPC services such as consultancy, code optimisation, testbeds and proofs of concept, 5) training in HPC, HPDA and emerging technologies. RISE (59 person-months) leads tasks 1 to 3 and contributes to tasks 4 and 5. Linköping University, which hosts NAISS, contributes to services and training.
