Purpose and goal
The purpose of the project is to accelerate the transition to zero-emission ferries. The goal is to develop and test a digital decision-support tool that combines real operational data with design models to reduce fuel consumption today and provide reliable guidance for future electrification. The tool will give operators clear recommendations for more efficient operations, optimal battery sizing, charging strategy, and investment decisions and collaboration between Swedish and U.S. partners.
Expected effects and result
The project is expected to deliver a validated decision-support tool that reduces fuel consumption and emissions while providing reliable guidance for electrification. The effects include more efficient operations, lower investment risks, and a faster transition to zero-emission ferries, as well as strengthened collaboration between Swedish and U.S. partners.
Planned approach and implementation
The project will collect operational vessel data, integrate it with design and simulation models, and develop a digital decision-support tool. The work is structured in phases: data collection, model development, simulation testing, and a pilot with an operator. The solution will be continuously validated with Swedish and U.S. partners to ensure functionality, usability, and impact before scaling further.
