Project duration October 2026 - September 2029
Status Ongoing
Venture Eurostars

Purpose and goal

The project´s aim is to develop and demonstrate a smart, AI-based solution for monitoring and optimizing vertical farming systems. Through sensors, IoT and advanced data analytics, PIPEWISE will enable early detection of deviations, such as problems with water flow and irrigation, and reduce water and energy consumption. The solution will improve operational reliability, resource efficiency and productivity and contribute to a more sustainable, data-driven and competitive vertical farming.

Expected effects and result

The project is expected to result in a validated AI and IoT-based solution for monitoring and optimizing vertical farming systems, including sensors, data analytics and decision support. The solution will enable earlier detection of errors and deviations, reduce irrigation-related downtime and contribute to at least 10% lower water and energy consumption. The results will be validated in a pilot plant in Almería and create a basis for commercialization and future market establishment.

Planned approach and implementation

The project is implemented in stages through requirements definition, development and integration of sensors, IoT platform and AI-based data analysis. The solution is integrated with the GrowPipes system and tested first technically and then in a real pilot plant in Almería. Data from the cultivation system is used to identify deviations and optimize irrigation and energy use. The results are evaluated against defined KPIs and used for further development and commercialization.
