Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The need for improved diagnosis of urinary tract infection was identified. A laboratory method based on ATP assay was adapted for a dipstick format. The project has demonstrated that the reaction steps in the assay can be performed on materials suitable for integration in a dipstick. New contacts with health care providers were established and opportunities for collaboration with users in health care were identified. A major international company has expressed interest in collaboration around materials for diagnostic devices.

Results and expected effects

Deliverables 1.At least one clinical need that can be met by dipstick diagnostics Result: completed ie for urinary tract infection 2.A proof of concept demonstration Result: Completed in laboratory 3.Data supporting the proof of concept Result: Completed 4.A plan for further development Result: Not completed 5.An IP strategy Result: Not completed

Approach and implementation

The project started with a design phase consisting of interviews and workshops. The participation of a professional designer gave the participating scientists and health care professionals valuable insights into the development process. A development phase after the need was identified. The work benefitted greatly from the competencies in the group which enabled the successful development of the concept. Improvements could be made in the management of future projects based on the experiences here, especially in the communication concerning roles and expectations.
