Purpose and goal

This projekt is a demonstration project that aims to evaluate the benefits of using digital road condition monitoring for an efficient and sustainable winter road maintenance. The project provides the necessary knowledge required for implementation of a new tool for planning and conducting of winter maintenance measure based on road condition data collected by connected vehicle fleets material and conditions required for a rapid implementation of the project´s results. The result will contribute to a transport-efficient society that is accessible and resource-efficient.

Expected results and effects

The result of this projekt is expected to lead to a sustainable winter road maintenace through increased resource efficiency, improved road safety, reduced negative environmental impact, better working environment and an attractive and gender equale bransch. The results provide the basic knowledge of how connected vehicles should be used for follow-up of the condition on various parts of the transport infrastructure, eg, paved roads, gravel roads, railings, lighting, rest areas, etc.

Planned approach and implementation

This project is carried out in the form of a system and technology demonstration on the municipal road network for which the Traffic Office in Göteborgs Stad is responsible. The project is divided into six work packages with a clear objektives which, in addition to evaluation and validation of the technology, include development of the necessary basis for adapting regulations, business model, etc. These adjustments are necessary for a quick implementation of the project results.
