Important results from the project

DigiLog is based on existing physical and digital test beds that are linked together to create a modern, future-oriented production logistics. The test bed helps to facilitate a gradual transition to digitized and sustainable logistics, where companies and users can find the right level of automation and technology for their logistics problems. The digital twin opens up to experiment with new ways to process, analyze and use collected data (simulation model and physical test bed) for improved planning and optimization of ongoing processes.

Expected long term effects

We have carried out a series of experiments where we tested different technologies: analyzed how different grippers can be used or not used for putty of different parts; tested different vision systems and how they in connection with robots can facilitate a digitization and automation process. Furthermore, how vision systems can be used to improve quality and how to use RTLS to collect data to get a transparent flow. This is combined with simulations for optimizing the logistics operations and a digital shadow for process analysis and for use in training.

Approach and implementation

In the first phase of the project, a needs analysis was made of two manufacturing industry partners. Based on the specification, different scenarios were developed and continuously adapted. For some requirements, the full realization was not possible since it would require comprehensive infrastructure changes. The project also showed how different the degree of maturity in the digitization process can be and thus also the project´s contribution: support the entire digitization process versus do direct tests. Finally, we now have an integrated digital-physical environment.
