Project duration December 2011 - January 2014
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

Developing an environmentally, phosphate-free dishwasher detergent that works at very low temperature and in hard water. Gentle to glass and proven better results than market leader at decorated glass and porclain. We have produced simple screening methods to rapidly evaluate machine dishwashing detergent properties. Test sales in Sweden are ongoing with the new formulation.

Results and expected effects

Increased sales in market segments ´dishwasher´. A new effective product that is more gentle on glass and decor but still effective even in hard water should create demand. The product can be offered in * Pods or tabs * with water soluble plastic film or as a powder. * Pods are small water soluble plastic bags of powder. Tabs are hard pressed tablets.

Approach and implementation

In cooperation with SP/YKI, the washing process has been analyzed piece by piece in order to identify what is happening in each moment. New raw material instead of phosphates has been evaluated. How should precipitates be avoided? How can we clean effective hard dried-contamination of e.g. eggs, milk, spinach, oatmeal and meat? Screening tests have been developed and hundreds of dish tests with different formulations has been evaluated. Etching test has been investigated with a new unique method. Many different formulations has been tested in comparison with market-leading brands.
