Reference number
Coordinator CHALMERS TEKNISKA HÖGSKOLA AKTIEBOLAG - Institutionen för tillämpad mekanik
Funding from Vinnova SEK 400 000
Project duration January 2012 - December 2014
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The aim of the project was to enhance quality and leverage for the Swedish railway sector from the European research project D-RAIL. This saws achieved through partly financing the participation of Anders Ekberg as scientific/technical coordinator. Specific aims were: - Quality assurance of deliverables from D-RAIL: This was obtained through thorough review (and updates) of all reports. - Compile most important results: These are compiled in a booklet. - Dissemination to the railway sector: Carried out e.g. through the final seminar of D-RAIL.

Results and expected effects

D-RAIL has shown the target of reductions in freight derailments by 8-12% and related costs by 10-20% can be obtained through project results. Within the coordination detailed knowledge on effective means of derailment prevention has been disseminated. We have also been able to pursuit key objectives such as the use of standardised RFID systems. Finally the project has managed to provide a condensed summary of key results that complements the detailed and extensive result descriptions in the D-RAIL Deliverable reports.

Approach and implementation

The core of the project was carried out as traditional scientific/technical coordination. Generally funding for such activities are basically non-existent in EU funded projects. Through the VINNOVA financing the work could be significantly expanded and enhanced. This resulted in an increased technical level of the reports (most reports were revised to some degree). In addition key results could be extracted and compiled in presentations and summaries.
