Project duration August 2015 - October 2016
Status Completed
Venture Strategic innovation programme for process industrial IT and automation – PiiA

Purpose and goal

The project aims to improve the IT innovation system in the process industry by making it easier for 3rd party developers to reach out with their solutions to a larger market and for the process industry to fins valuable solutions. The project has contributed to this by new integrations have been developed on the platform that has the potential to spread to a wider market. The project also aims to create a more uniform and simplified IT architecture to the process industry, the project has contributed to this by reducing the number of stand-alone applications.

Expected results and effects

The project goals were to: - obtain knowledge on how non-critical local systems and IT infrastructure in the process industry can be moved to the cloud. - obtain knowledge of how the platform applications will be operated / maintained in the cloud. - develop a proven cloud-based platform concept in the cloud with plans for further industrial testing. These goals have been realized in the project where the system 800xA was installed in Azure and evaluated as a platform. We have tested the integration of applications to the platform and is now, in a project step 2, proceeding with industrial tests.

Planned approach and implementation

In the project, all parties contributed essential elements that has been discussed at joint meetings and workshops. Joint training sessions were conducted for participants to gain in-depth knowledge of the integration process and the cloud environment. The arrangement has worked well and the participating parties have been engaged in work were they have seen great potential to develop their own products.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
