Purpose and goal

Western Sweden is the center of Sweden’s process industry. With its large refining capacity, chemical cluster, leading forest industries, and the country’s largest port, the region holds a unique position. Climate-leading Process Industry is an initiative supporting the transformation of chemical and process industries. Through network and project activities, aim for the goal of creating a fossil-independent and competitive industrial region based on renewable och circular raw materials.

Expected effects and result

A selection of expected results and long-term effects from Climate-leading Process Industry are expected to be that the program has supported a development towards Västra Götaland reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 80% compared to 1990, that the industry produces more products from recycled and/or bio-based raw materials for an established market and that the initiative´s actors together have shown clear leadership both nationally and internationally in the transition to a fossil-free society.

Planned approach and implementation

The initiative Climate-leading Process Industry has three main thematic areas; Sustainable carbon flows, Energy and hydrogen and Commercialization. Within the thematic areas, the initiative´s actors can collaborate either via seminars and other network activities (Network Arena) or in collaborative projects (Innovation Arena) in aim to jointly contribute to the vision of a fossil-free, world-leading industrial region based on renewable and recycled raw materials.
