Status Completed
Venture Circular and biobased economy

Purpose and goal

The project investigated the feasibility of implementing CE indicators into existing set of key performance indicators in three companies. We have successfully worked with three companies (Volvo Cars, Tarkett Sverige and Pharem AB) to collaboratively study their existing KPIs and test the feasibility of CE monitoring with a chosen indicator. The analysis evaluated the challenges and opportunities for streamlining CE monitoring into daily management of firms.

Expected results and effects

The findings demonstrate that CE indicators can be implemented into existing KPIs, especially in companies with flexible management, multiple indicators in place and environmental commitment. However, a successful implementation depends on availability of robust and mature indicators. Results include a practical review of available CE indicators with suggestions for their suitable application areas and a feasibility study. The main expected, long-term effect of stage 2 is a widespread adoption of CE indicators in Swedish industry.

Planned approach and implementation

The project included three work packages. WP1 - for project administration/management and was the responsibility of the project leader throughout the whole project, including final reporting. WP2 (December 2018-May 2019) included literature review, interviews, coaching sessions and a workshop involving the companies and research experts on CE indicators and environmental management systems. WP 2 also included an integration of results. WP 3 (March-June 2019) included a consortium building phase.
