Important results from the project

The project explored three questions: how aesthetics are managed in transformation, how building materials gain new value, and how reuse differences can be organized. Prototypes and a framework for varied materials showed new paths for circular construction. Through foresight work using the Utopia Typing method, three scenarios for future business models in 2030 were developed, reflecting radically changed consumption patterns.

Expected long term effects

The project has the potential to inspire the reuse of materials in renovation, even those with no obvious value. The system for handling differences in reuse can be scaled up rather than individual solutions. Materials with varied dimensions and conditions can be handled. The prototypes demonstrate the importance of building for future reuse. The products are not intended to replace all new plaster, but to act as a complement and catalyst for increased reuse.

Approach and implementation

The project began with foresight workshops and an inventory, and ended with physical prototypes. The foresight work didn’t reach its full potential and needed more time for preparation and follow-up. The prototype development was unexpectedly successful, thanks to student involvement and a constructive dialogue. As construction took place late in the project, the timeline was hard to meet, and the project was extended to enable broader dissemination and result compilation.
