Purpose and goal
Development of more advanced driver assistance functions (ADAS) and steps towards autonomous driving (AD) vehicles is continuing at a rapid pace. Development of test technology at the test labs has to maintain at least at the same pace. Chronos 2 will start integration with simulator technology into the test platform from Chronos 1 to: - allow for more dynamic and adaptable test object behavior, - injection of virtual objects into vehicle under test, - investigate virtual reality on the test track for driver in the loop - increase support in the test platform for connected vehicles.
Expected results and effects
Chronos part 2 will further enhance cooperation within the Swedish automotive industry and with the telecommunication area to enable continued leadership in active safety, autonomous and connected vehicles by: - increased capability to repeatably and safely create complex traffic scenarios, - increased capability for research into driver comfort boundaries in human behavior research for active safety features and autonomous drive, - increased capability for research and development with connected vehicles (cellular and ITS-G5).
Planned approach and implementation
The project consists of eight workpackages (WPs). The plan is to split the work in three lanes; test support for connected vehicles (WP6 och WP7), driver in the loop (WP5) and enhanced test platform (WP2, WP3, WP4 and WP8). These three lanes will be lead and coordinated by WP1.
