Chips of Europe

Purpose and goal

Sweden´s funding for CHIPS of Europe is led by Lund University and focuses on education in chip design, international collaboration and collaboration with industry. The role also includes mobility and long-term partnerships. The project strengthens Sweden´s skills supply, competitiveness and integration into the EU semiconductor ecosystem, and contributes to attracting and retaining cutting-edge expertise without dependence on large-scale production.

Expected effects and result

CoE is important for Sweden as it secures future competence in semiconductor technology, strengthens Sweden´s position in chip and system design, and integrates Swedish universities and industry into the ecosystem around the EU´s Chips Act. The project contributes to attracting and retaining cutting-edge expertise, adapting education to industry needs, and maintaining Sweden´s long-term competitiveness in high-value semiconductor innovation without dependence on large-scale manufacturing.

Planned approach and implementation

Lund University Swedish main actor that contributes broadly by developing courses in micro- and nanofabrication and introducing COIL modules as well as new educational formats such as micromerits, commissioned training and sustainability courses. Also contributes with virtual labs via data from Lund Nano Lab, participates in long-term collaboration through teaching and summer schools, participates in teacher training and develops materials about semiconductors.
