Purpose and goal

The project´s purpose is to develop a deeper understanding of bearing currents in electrified aircraft systems and identify strategies to reduce or eliminate them. The goal is to identify bearing current scenarios in aircraft-specific drive and generation systems, investigate experimental methods adapted to the operating conditions of the aviation industry, and strengthen international R&D collaboration in electrified aeronautical systems.

Expected effects and result

The project is expected to generate new knowledge about bearing currents in aviation-specific applications, investigate experimental methods and identify technical mitigation strategies. The results will reduce technical uncertainties linked to electrification and contribute to more robust and reliable aviation systems. The project also strengthens Swedish expertise and positioning in international R&D collaborations in electrified aviation.

Planned approach and implementation

The project is being conducted over 12 months in collaboration between GKN Aerospace, Luleå University of Technology and an international component supplier. The work is organized into three work packages: system analysis and risk mapping, experimental verification, and development of mitigation strategies and international integration. Regular technical meetings and workshops ensure collaboration and dissemination of results.
