Important results from the project

The overall purpose has been to contribute knowledge about categorization that supports the emergence of universal design in Sweden. The project has resulted in eleven publications and 113 lectures and workshops that have been conducted as part of knowledge generation in dialogue with others. We have experienced a great need for knowledge about universal design and therefore we have also produced a report with recommendations. The recommendations are about categorization that does not lead to inequality and is based on experiences and knowledge that have emerged in the project.

Expected long term effects

The project came at a time characterized by great knowledge needs in terms of universal design. It has therefore fulfilled an important function by conducting lectures in various contexts and contributing publications of scientific, popular science and artistic nature. The overall final report from the project, "Categorization that supports the growth of universal design in Sweden", will be launched after the summer of 2021 and has excellent conditions for creating an impression both in concrete urban planning and in policy based on universal design.

Approach and implementation

The project has been implemented as an interdisciplinary collaboration based on a successful combination of design sciences and linguistics. The project´s theme, categorization that supports universal design, evokes thoughts and elicits stories and has proven valuable both as a conversation starter and for generating new knowledge. The Corona pandemic has required some re-planning, including a shift to digital workshops, and has also delayed the review of the project´s publications in scientific journals.
