Call Business models for sustainable forest-based industries

Purpose and goal

The project aims to develop business models that enable circular and sustainable use of bark from the Swedish forest industry. The goal is to create at least two scalable models that increase the economic value of bark, promote collaboration in the value chain and provide strategies for commercialization. By addressing barriers such as logistics, value distribution and collaboration within the value chain, the project will contribute to a sustainable bioeconomy.

Expected effects and result

The project will deliver at least two business models, commercialization strategies, insights into barriers and drivers, and LCA-based sustainability data. The impacts include reduced climate emissions, increased resource efficiency, and new revenue streams for the forest industry. The project strengthens the ecosystem around bark-based solutions and spreads methods to other side streams, contributing to a more circular and competitive bioeconomy.

Planned approach and implementation

The project is implemented in seven work packages: project management, analysis of technology and bark flows, future scenarios, ecosystem mapping, business model development, sustainability analysis and communication. The work is carried out in close collaboration between industry, research actors and business developers, with, among other things, workshops and interviews that ensure relevance, scalability and long-term sustainability.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
