Important results from the project
The project aims to develop the automatic balancing technique with a balance ring consisting of a ring with freely moving balls and adapt it for airplane applications. The technology is today used with great success in handheld grinders and washing machines. The project goal has been to produce a test rig that simulates the rotor dynamics of a propeller where the imbalance can be varied continuously during operation to simulate real conditions. Also a balance ring where the ball raceway can be exchanged has been developed with the aim of increasing the balancing precision.
Expected long term effects
The developed test rig and balance ring provide a very good foundation for continued development of automatic balancing technology by optimizing the balancing precision and locking mechanism for critical speed. The demonstrator will significantly facilitate linking stakeholders to the project as it is possible to demonstrate the effect effectively and we have contacts with stakeholders that will be contacted.
Approach and implementation
The test rig is designed to provide spring packs to imitate the rotor dynamics of an aircraft and the imbalance can be varied continuously. It is powered by an engine where the speed can be varied to simulate a flight. During operation, vibrations will be measured in different directions, impeded imbalances and speed.
