Project duration May 2026 - September 2026
Status Ongoing
Call Planning grant for international proposal 2026

Purpose and goal

AQUANOVA aims to develop and demonstrate scalable processes for converting aquatic biomass and marine residual streams into high-value bio-based materials and composites for marine applications. The project will establish an integrated value chain from feedstock to end-product, validate solutions at TRL 6–7, and strengthen European competitiveness in the bioeconomy, industrial biotechnology and sustainable materials sectors.

Expected effects and result

The project is expected to deliver novel processes and materials derived from aquatic biomass with validated performance in marine environments. Results will improve resource efficiency, reduce reliance on fossil-based materials and support circular value chains. Expected impacts include new business opportunities, increased industrial deployment of bio-based solutions and reduced environmental and climate impacts.

Planned approach and implementation

The project is organised into four integrated work packages. WP1 covers project management and coordination. WP2 focuses on consortium development, value-chain integration and industrial commitment. WP3 develops scale-up scenarios and assesses environmental, economic and societal impacts. WP4 covers the development and finalisation of the EU proposal, including project structure, budget, impact, exploitation and dissemination strategies
