Purpose and goal

Vehicle safety evaluation is entering an era of HBM-based virtual testing. Euro NCAP will monitor HBM results from 2026 and plans to integrate them into the rating from 2029. The project develops an industrial workflow for accurate HBM personalization and rapid positioning for Euro NCAP-relevant applications. It addresses labor-intensive personalization, expert-dependent positioning, and limited harmonization between HBM families.

Expected effects and result

The project is expected to provide an industrially usable workflow for HBM personalization and rapid positioning, with quality assurance, demonstrators and recommendations for Euro NCAP-relevanta applications. The effects will be shorter lead times, reduced manual expert work and better opportunities to use HBM on a larger scale. In the long term, the results will strengthen Swedish competitiveness and contribute to safer and more inclusive road safety evaluation.

Planned approach and implementation

The project is implemented in five work packages. WP1 develops and validates methods for HBM personalization. WP2 develops an AI-based positioning engine. WP3 addresses quality, reproducibility, runnability and comparisons between HBM families. WP4 focuses on industrialization, interfaces and demonstrators for Euro NCAP-relevanta applications. WP5 covers project management, collaboration, dissemination and utilization.
