Venture Strategic innovation programme for process industrial IT and automation – PiiA
Call PiiA: Data analysis in industrial value chains, spring 2021

Purpose and goal

During the project, discussions, interviews, workshops, strategic analysis and technical experiments were conducted to create both an overview and a deeper understanding of obstacles and opportunities with point cloud technology in the industrial context. The challenges that industry faces today were mapped in a series of workshops. Based on the description of needs, the current software for already existing technologies was mapped. Subsequently, a number of technical experiments were performed to shed light on possible technical further development in the upcoming FUI study.

Expected results and effects

Due to limited time, a FUI study could not be put together in the spring of 2022, which was one of the preliminary study´s objectives. However, the goal is still to create a FUI proposal in the autumn of 2022, as the topic and the proposed solution generated great interest. With the help of the illustrations and presentation material produced within the study´s work packages and activities, we see a great opportunity to continue to expand the consortium and generate additional technical and academic results that show the potential of IndTech and its impact on the industry.

Planned approach and implementation

During the coming study, involvement among a number of parties will be even more relevant. The study identified both the difficulty in communicating around such technically difficult topics and at the same time highlighted the need for the type of knowledge of real-time technology that exists within Sweden´s borders. In future work, the consortium will investigate the possibility of connecting producing companies and 3D creators to the group to support the industry with the development, expertise and contacts that create sustainable and long-term development of XR technology.
