Important results from the project
Expected results have been achieved and created a foundation for further joint digital development in the grocery industry. The work clarifies the need for standardized data structures and technology-independent solutions, while cost-effectiveness is crucial since the industry´s large proportion of smaller actors (stores, restaurants, haulage companies) have limited investment opportunities for load carrier systems. Retail and pharmaceutical flows are identified to benefit from our results.
Expected long term effects
By using advanced digitalization in goods flows via load carriers, data can be aggregated and used to automate and streamline flows. The potential is great in terms of balance control, process automation, track & trace, and analysis and improvements where there is great innovation potential in the form of new services and comprehensive solutions for optimized flows that can benefit the industry´s development in efficiency, sustainability, and resilience.
Approach and implementation
The project was implemented within 2 work packages (AP); Business potentials & governance model and System & technology by a project group with representatives from SRS and LTH. A large part of AP 1 was implemented together with the industry reference group while AP 2 was implemented through external studies, analysis and concept development by participants in the project group. Involvement of additional external actors was made, such as GS1, and overall we followed the commited project plan.
