Important results from the project
In this project, we have managed to follow the project plan step by step and delivered the world´s first size-adaptive system in workwear products, for our project partner. Within the project we developed an innovative thread and based on it, we designed and manufactured a smart patch that could manipulate the latter size, to change from smaller to bigger sizes and vice versa, multiple times. The smart patch then was developed into a whole multi-patch system as a component that we could integrate with a textile garment and control the size of the whole garment on-demand.
Expected long term effects
In the project, we have developed the world´s first smart-patch system for size adjustment to be integrated with textile garments. We have also created and patented know-how along the way and analyzed how to adapt the innovation into existing value chain to scale up the production. There have been dialogues with different actors from several market segments in the textile industry and how to adapt the product to these market needs. The companies involved have shown great interest to test our solution. The next step is to develop CE mark on the product to reach a level of market establishment.
Approach and implementation
We developed a smart thread and designed a smart-patch with the function of reversible and multiple size adjustments. The patch has been gone through durability and reproducibility tests in normal and extreme conditions. In the next step, we connected a whole multi-patch system and integrated it in an existing textile garment together with the project partner within the workwear segment, to adapt the development according to market needs. The upgraded garment was tested and finally evaluated by the project partner with positive feedback at the end of the project.
