Funding from Vinnova SEK 5 000 000
Project duration August 2017 - December 2019
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

Purpose and goal was to establish laboratory-friendly school environments where ways of learning were analyzed, tested and verified. Environments supported by digital and interior aids were created in which educational methods were evaluated. Researchers from the University of Gävle and RISE, as well as companies have contributed to new perspectives and knowledge of needs-driven development. The project is rather the beginning of something new than an end product. It got participating schools started to think in a new way using a new model for implementing development processes.

Expected results and effects

The project has provided a greater understanding of the link between activity and school environment. New physical and educational learning environments have streamlined teaching and increased cooperation on teaching planning, execution and development. Will-power was enhanced in testing new educational approaches and new technologies intened to develop both learning environment and students´ learning. Unutilized surfaces were identified and evolved into conscious areas for learning. The project´s innovation has attracted new staff with solid knowledge and experience.

Planned approach and implementation

Continuous communiction to staff concerned, pupils, guardians and politicians on objectives/purpose. Frequent project meetings and close follow-up. Long start distance to work in iterative processes, partly due to unfamiliarity of testing new ways of working in a classic learning environment. Understanding agile development has increased over time and is now seen as the beginning of a longer process of change. The obstacles met in the project can be summarized briefly in unfamiliarity to projects. The overall lessons have provided important knowledge for continued development.
