Important results from the project
The overall purpose of the study is to contribute to the sustainable development not the least regarding the implementation of digital solutions in the healthcare system. One of the goals was to generate new insights into patient processes, organisational requirements, and employee needs. In the project we also combined and tested a set of methods known as participatory simulation games and design interventions and examined how they collectively can support innovation and development in complex socio-technical systems.
Expected long term effects
The study highlights several obstacles that hinder the development of new work methods and digital solutions. These include goal conflicts both between organizations and the different professions, the need to examine the interpretation of laws and methods for control and models for reimbursement. Conditions were identified for how the combined methods used in the project can best support development projects. Based on the insights from the project, areas for development have been identified as suitable to be further pursued through collaboration among the various stakeholders.
Approach and implementation
User-centered methods and the active participation of employees in co-creating activities have been crucial to the outcomes of the study. These activities include: - training in service design methods, - interviews conducted by the researchers, - employees conducting interviews and observations within each other´s organisations, - joint analysis workshop within the working group, - simulation game workshop, - creative workshop with a larger group than the working group aiming at co-creating visions for a future state and identifying barriers/enablers for future development.
