Build bridges to the future with Horizon Europe

Horizon Europe is an invaluable platform for research and innovation projects across Europe. The program enables many organisations and companies to receive funding and support so that they can realize groundbreaking ideas and technologies. But the program not only provides financial support but also the opportunity to participate in international networks of collaborators.

By working together with partners from different countries, participants can exchange ideas, shape new ways of thinking and develop innovative solutions to global challenges. Participating in Horizon Europe also provides an opportunity to build relationships and networks. Jenny Wanselius, Head of the EU Unit at Vinnova, tells us more.

– Horisont Europa is Sweden's most important tool for international cooperation in research and innovation. In addition to collaborations in Europe, the program also opens the door to global collaboration with partner countries around the world. Ukraine is associated with Horizon Europe, and we really want to encourage Swedish actors to involve Ukrainian partners in relevant project and collaborations.

Many opportunities for Swedish actors

– Horizon Europe offers opportunities for many different actors to participate. EU wants to create collaborations where researchers, innovators, large industrial companies, small businesses, municipalities and regions and civil society can participate and strengthen Europe's competitiveness by developing solutions to our major societal challenges, continues Jenny Wanselius.

– There are also opportunities for many different types of project – these can be collaborative projects to drive research forward, industrial innovation projects, project for network building and policy development, for researcher mobility and for the development of innovations that can be commercialized.

Support and advice in the process

“The application process can be complex and challenging, but it is also a chance to turn visions into reality. Our National Contact Points (NCPs) are here to support you – and you can also apply for planning grants to get you started. By applying, organisations can gain valuable feedback and insights that help them improve their project and strategies,” says Jenny Wanselius.

For small and medium-sized companies, support is also available from EU SME Support. They are located throughout Sweden, have broad industry expertise and offer free expert advice.

Sweden's research and innovation office in Brussels, SWERI, also offers support. The office acts as a link between Sweden and the EU's research and innovation policy and can, for example, help with navigating Brussels, making contacts and arranging meetings.

Vinnova, together with other Swedish actors is organizing information meetings ahead of the calls for proposals for research and innovation that will open within the program in 2026.
