When the user phase of the vehicle increasingly takes place fossil-free, it is in the manufacturing phase and decommissioning phase of the vehicle that there is the greatest potential to reduce a vehicle's total environmental and climate impact.
FFI Circularity will contribute to:
- Increased competence in circularity
- New business models and working methods
- Improved regulations and standards
- Reduced climate emissions
- Reduced energy use
- More efficient use of resources
- Phasing out of hazardous substances linked to the manufacture and decommissioning of vehicles
- Common principles for calculating and reporting emissions from the manufacture and scrapping of vehicles
- A robust and competitive production chain locally and globally
- Sustainable and attractive work throughout the value chain, to retain manpower and attract new competent people.
What we finance within FFI Circularity
The sub-program focuses on financing project in the following areas:
Design for circularity
- To take responsibility for the entire value chain, including through circular business models. A change of skills is needed throughout the chain; development, manufacturing and recycling and reuse.
- Optimized service life of products, materials and parts
- Development of methods, tools and standards
- Circular material flows
- New production processes that enable reuse and recycling
- Modularization for increased service life, interchangeability and flexibility
Social sustainability throughout the value chain
- Ethical and social aspects of sustainability
- Retain employees and attract new skills through technologies and solutions for cognitive and physical support
- Clean and sustainable factories
Climate neutral, circular manufacturing and recycling
- Reuse (including equipment)
- Sustainable, resource-efficient and circular production systems
- New technologies, including adapting to electrification and reducing current environmental footprints
- To create conditions for robust production chains
- Increased use of secondary materials
Other areas that contribute to the sub-program's mission
- New materials, technologies or methods that radically minimize the environmental impact of the development, manufacture and decommissioning of vehicles
The sub-program will not finance pure cost savings, efficiency improvements or rationalisations that are not linked to circularity. The project that are approved must have a clear description of how the project contributes to a possible improvement from a life cycle perspective.
