Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Artificial intelligence (AI) has great potential potential to help us meet some of the great societal challenges of our time, such as treating chronic diseases and combating climate change.
What is AI?
In its bacis form, AI is digital technology that enables automated information processing and decision-making without human intervention.
One way to define AI is the ability of a machine to mimic intelligent human behavior. Artificial intelligence is also the field of science and technology that deals with the study, understanding, and development of machines with intelligent behavior.
The use of AI creates opportunities for efficiency improvements in both the public sector and the business community, provides new business opportunities and is in many cases crucial to our future competitiveness.
Vinnova contributes to accelerating the development and use of AI in areas that are important for Sweden or where we can take an international leading position. We now have a particular focus on AI to meet the climate challenge, AI solutions for the Swedish language and the use of AI for increased gender equality.
Our AI initiatives
Sweden AI Factory – a national AI factory
Sweden AI Factory is Sweden's national AI factory and part of the EU's network of AI factories. The initiative gives companies, startups, researchers and the public sector access to advanced computing capacity, expert support and training to develop and scale AI solutions.
Sweden AI Factory is run by NAISS in partnership with RISE Research Institutes of Sweden and is funded by the Swedish Research Council, Vinnova and EuroHPC Joint Undertaking. The initiative includes training, expert support, innovation-promoting activities, and access to AI-optimised supercomputing resources.
For Vinnova, the AI Factory is a key component in translating AI infrastructure into innovation, growth, and societal benefits. By connecting research environments, companies, investors, and innovation support organisations, it enables more Swedish actors to develop, test, and scale AI solutions that are competitive internationally.
