Who can apply?

Consortia of companies, universities and colleges, research institutes and other relevant actors with at least two industrial partners / companies and one research actor. Pre-studies can be applied for by a single party if the applicant can demonstrate industrial relevance in the form of a letter of intent from at least one company.

How much can you apply for?

The budget for the offer is SEK 20 million. For pre-studies, a maximum of SEK 500,000 can be applied for and for a full-scale innovation project a maximum of SEK 10 million. For full-scale projects and pilot projects, the total funding is max. 50 percent and for pre-studies max. 75 percent.

  • What can we finance?

    With this offer, we can finance shorter feasibility studies, full-scale innovation projects or pilot projects in one of the following areas:

    • exploration

    • Resource characterization

    • mining

    • mineral Processing

    • Recycling and metallurgy

    • Finishing and environmental performance

    • Attractive workplaces

    • CSR and social relations

    • Gender equality and diversity

    Preliminary studies can be up to 6 months, innovation projects up to 36 months and pilot projects up to 18 months.

    What is STRIM?

    The strategic innovation program for the Swedish mining and metal extraction industry (STRIM) is run by three Swedish authorities: Vinnova, the Swedish Energy Agency and Formas. The program aims to strengthen Sweden's competitiveness and contribute to sustainable development in the mining and metal-extracting sector by working towards the following objective:

    • World leaders and efficient research, development, innovation and education
    • A sustainable and safe supply of raw materials with a sustainable use of the country's geological potential
    • A well-developed ability to act on the international market in profitable niches with increased added value from products
    • Promoting a regulatory framework that is compatible with a growing industry without disadvantages to international competitiveness while creating increased resource efficiency
    • Strengthen the Swedish mining regions to make them innovative and attractive environments for investment(s) and housing. Here, cooperation with SMEs (SMEs) can play an important role
    • Improve the image of the mining sector by taking social and environmental responsibility and offering attractive workplaces where men and women jointly develop sustainable production processes

    Formal requirements for proposal

    Only proposals that meet the following formal requirements will be assessed:

    • The project partners must be legal entities.
    • The project must not have started before proposal.
    • For preliminary studies, applicant must be able to demonstrate industrial relevance in the form of a letter of intent from at least one company.
    • For full-scale innovation projects and pilot projects, a strengthened commitment for all industrial partners / companies must be attached.
    • For full-scale innovation projects and pilot projects, the consortium must consist of at least two industrial partners / companies and one research actor.
    • For full-scale innovation projects and pilot projects, a maximum of 50 percent of the project's eligible costs can be grant.
    • For preliminary studies, a maximum of 75 per cent of the project's eligible costs can be applied for in grant.
    • Proposal shall contain everything that is requested in paragraph 9 of the call for proposals.
    • Existing templates must be used for the appendices, project description, project description and proven commitment.
    • The maximum project time is 6 months for preliminary studies, 36 months for full-scale innovation projects and 18 months for pilot projects.
    • The project will address at least one of the areas in the STRIM agenda.
