Joint call for proposals for international AI- projects within the EUREKA innovation network, 2021
The clusters within the international innovation network EUREKA merge for the second time in a joint call for proposals with a focus on artificial intelligence. The investment is a unique opportunity for Swedish industry and academia in many technology areas to collaborate with leading international actors to advance their positions in the AI area.

Who can apply?
International collaboration projects with participation from Swedish industry and / or academia, in virtually all technology areas.
How much can you apply for?
There is no upper limit, but we finance a maximum of 50 percent of the project´s eligible costs. We usually finance from 2 million up to about SEK 25 million. Projects generally run over three years but may be shorter.

What is the offer about?
To promote international cooperation in research, development and innovation, applicants can in this call for proposals apply for financing for industry driven and market oriented cluster projects with a focus on artificial intelligence.
Cluster projects mean international cooperation between large and small companies, academia and research institutes to strengthen European competitiveness. EUREKA clusters are strategic and thematic initiatives initiated by European industry.
So far, 14 countries have committed to this call for proposals. In addition to European countries South Korea, Singapore and South Africa are also participating. This effort is a unique opportunity for Swedish industry and academia to advance their positions and create common opportunities within artificial intelligence.

The projects
We encourage applicants to collaborate across sectors, such as across different technology areas and the EUREKA clusters’ traditional focus areas.
Cluster projects usually have between 4 to 20 project participants and the total international budget usually ranges between 2 to 20 M€. Actors from at least 2 different countries need to cooperate. It is expected that many international project budgets in this call will range between 3 to 15 M€.
Take the opportunity to already now sketch on projects and network with possible partners. All participating clusters will initiate different types of activities to ease and support the formation of consortia. They can be contacted directly.
Application and application process
You can apply for funding to develop technology, products and services for an international market, to solve an industrial challenge or to develop new standards or standardization processes, with a focus on artificial intelligence.
The call opens on 1 March and closes on 28 June. Projects can start from March 1st 2022.
International application
The application will be performed in one step via https://eureka-clusters-ai.eu/ and with one application template that is common for all clusters. One step means that applicants does not first submit a Project Outline for assessment, which is the usual process for EUREKA Clusters. Instead, the full international application is submitted directly on June 28th, for an assessment on central and national level. We recommend you to discuss the application with Vinnova on beforehand.
National application
After the international application has been assessed, approved projects will be invited to submit a national application directly to Vinnova between the 20th of September to 20th of October. After that Vinnova will perform its full assessment including interviews during November. Vinnova intends to communicate the funding decisions around February 15th.
Vinnova will apply the same rules as for the other EUREKA cluster calls. Please note that the process described in the below document is replaced by the above mentioned one step process without the need for a Project Outline.
