Lightweight technology - feasibility studies, and research and innovation projects spring 2019

In this call, we address companies, research institutes, universities and other legal entities operating in Sweden. The aim of the call is to strengthen the competitiveness in Swedish lightweight technology. This will be achieved by participating in cross-sectoral cooperation generating new knowledge and competence, solutions, methods, demonstrations and by the development of new and established chains of supply. In the call, it is possible to apply for two different types of projects based on industrial needs: feasibility studies, and research and innovation projects.

How much can you apply for?

Feasibility studies may apply for 800,000 SEK with a minimum requirement of co-financing of 20 percent. For the research and innovation projects there is no limit for application of funding, but the required co-financing is at least 50 percent. In this call, the overall budget is 50 mkr.

  • What is the offer about?

    The strategic innovation program for Lightweight intends to finance projects that generates new cross-sectional knowledge. The projects will generate new solutions, methods, competence, and demonstrations with the aim to bring lightweight technology into industrial applications at a faster pace.

    In the call, it is possible to apply for two different types of projects:

    1. Feasibility studies, with a maximum duration of 12 months, is aiming to develop new ideas to lightweight solutions. A project will examine the formation of cross-sectional co-operation within a specific area with the aim to execute a future research and innovation project.
    2. Research- and innovation projects will generate results that may be introduced in commercially driven industrial projects within five years after the end of the project. The maximum duration of a project is three years.

    One of the overall goals of the program is that 75 percent of the lightweight solutions generated in the projects will be implemented. At least one of the following will be achieved and argued for in the application:

    • at least a 20 percent reduction in cost and weight
    • at least a 20 percent reduction in developing time and weight
    • at least a 20 percent weight reduction by combining different materials 
    • at least a 20 percent weight reduction by improved product properties or innovative solutions.

    How to apply

    To apply for funding, you need to complete an application form in our application portal, Intressentportalen. The form contains questions about your project, project members and budget.

    Allow enough time to complete the application

    Keep in mind that it can take several days to gather the information you need to complete your application, so it’s a good idea to start early. You can start to fill in your details, save and make adjustments until the call has closed.
