Swedish Research in Microelectronics

In early 2007, the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research (SSF) proposed conducting an evaluation of Swedish academic research in microelectronics, including photonics and relevant nano and materials science-related projects and programmes, jointly together with the Swedish Research Council (VR) and the Swedish Governmental Agency for Innovation Systems (VINNOVA) – the first comprehensive evaluation of this research field in Sweden. It was decided that the evaluation should include research activities conducted at a Swedish institution of higher education from 2003 to 2007. Applied research and contract research which is mainly carried out at research institutes and generally not part of the funded programmes within the three above mentioned organisations were not considered to be included in the present evaluation.
