Sweden remains among the top ten countries in terms of participation in EU's Seventh Framework Program, FP7. The latest figures from the EU-Commission (October 2009) shows that Sweden has contracted close to 4 billion SEK
(387 329 807 euro) since the start of FP7 in 2007. The contracted funds from FP7 represents about 25% of the total R&D funding in Sweden.*
1 100 participations in 771 approved projects puts Sweden in eight place among the countries in FP7. The Swedish success rate in FP7 is over 24% which gives a fifth position among the 27 EU member states. Swedish participation in approved project applications was 6 349 of which 1 535 applications were eligable for funding.
Cooperation is still the largest specific programme regarding participation in FP7 and in financial terms. 72% of the Swedish participation was carried out within Cooperation which is slightly higher than the average for the total participation in FP7, which amounts to 67%. The largest number of Swedish participation is within the thematic areas of ICT and Health.
The main actor in the Swedish FP7 participation is still universities and higher education, representing 54% of the total participation. The business sector represented one quarter of the total Swedish participants which is almost the same as in 2008.
